Could you make rent in these towns? Here's the 50 most expensive places to rent in PA
Editor's note: The data used in this analysis was supplied by the U.S. Census' five-year American Community Survey. The ACS includes rough estimates of median rent data at the municipal level, and actual values may be slightly different. Median gross rent includes the contract rent plus the estimated average monthly cost of utilities.
Almost 60% of Pennsylvania's 3.42 million renters were paying hundreds more than state's median gross rent of $1,013 a month in 2021, according to census data.
The median rent in Aleppo Township, Allegheny County, a municipality of only about 1,547 people, was about $3,177 a month — the highest median rent in the entire state.
The suburban counties around Philadelphia make up half of the 50 most expensive towns to rent in Pennsylvania, with 14 towns in Chester County alone and all 50 towns paying at least $700 more than the state median rent.
