Texas and OU, two Big 12 teams that are soon to be headed to the SEC, will play in the 2022 NCAA Men's College World Series June 17 through 27 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

But will the Texas baseball team and OU play each other?

It is a possibility. Texas (47-20, 14-10) might have to play the Oklahoma Sooners (42-22, 15-9) -- the team the Longhorns lost to 8-1 in the Big 12 baseball tournament championship game May 29.

The Red River Rivalry baseball record for 2022 is 2-2 for each team. In the three-game series April 1 through 3, Texas took two of three games.

Here are the scenarios for Texas to play OU in the 2022 College World Series.

What if both Texas and OU win or lose their first games of the 2022 College World Series?

If OU loses to Texas A&M in their opener, and Texas loses to Notre Dame in theirs, the teams would play each other in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 19 on ESPN -- Game 5 of the CWS.

If OU and Texas both win their openers, they'll play at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19 on ESPN -- Game 6 of the CWS.

What if OU wins its first game and Texas loses its first game of the 2022 College World Series?

If OU defeats Texas A&M in their CWS opener, the Sooners will advance to the winner's bracket to play the Game 2 winner in Game 6.

If OU then loses Game 6, they would face Texas if the Longhorns, having lost their opener to Notre Dame, staved off elimination to win Game 5.

In this case, the Texas-OU baseball matchup would be an elimination game at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 -- Game 9 of the CWS.

Could Texas and OU meet in the 2022 College World Series championship?

No. Both teams are in Bracket One, which also includes Texas A&M and Notre Dame.

The Bracket One winner will play the winner of Bracket Two, which includes the Stanford Cardinal, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels, for the 2022 CWS title.
