Hocking Hills Online is hosting a treasure hunt that could bank the winner a cash prize.

Hocking Hills Online has hosted two treasure hunts so far this year. A third treasure hunt is set to kick off Sept. 14, where a winner can receive a treasure chest with $10,000 and HockingHills.com merchandise.

The treasure hunt will include 10 clues, online but mostly in-person around the Hocking Hills region. Hocking Hills State Park is a little over an hour south of Columbus, in Logan.

Finn Fuller, co-owner of Hocking Hills Online, said the treasure hunt is designed to take people to areas they likely haven't been before. Clues won't be hidden in areas like Old Man's Cave, Rock House or Cedar Falls, for example.

He added that there will be no need for participants to dig, climb, wade in water or disturb nature.

"All in-person riddles will only take participants to places they are allowed to be," said Fuller. "Hiking off-trail will not be necessary to find the answers to clues."

This treasure hunt will be different than previous treasure hunts, he said. "But I can't share too much, or I might be giving out hints."

He said the treasure hunt has a spooky theme that will be unveiled as the clues are solved.

You can register for the treasure hunt at HockingHills.com. Participants must be 18 or over, and hunting at night is prohibited. A full list of rules will be listed on the website at the start of the treasure hunt.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has also issued a disclaimer that it is not involved in the contest.

"It is not state-sponsored, and (ODNR) has not been informed of any clues or prizes hidden on state property," read the disclaimer. "ODNR wants to remind its much-appreciated visitors to always stay on the marked trails and follow all park signage. Doing so will keep you safe and keep our natural resources protected."
