Mark your calendars and pray — there is a chance Yadier Molina could make one last appearance in Springfield with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals said Tuesday that Molina will begin participating in game action with a rehab assignment in the minors come the last week of July. One of the most beloved Cardinals of all time has been out this past month with right-knee inflammation.

As fate would have it, the Springfield Cardinals host the Frisco RoughRiders that week from July 26 through July 31. The Cardinals would then be on the road for the next two weeks with Molina expected to return to the big-league club in early August.

Springfield will hope to have the catcher instead of Molina making an appearance in Memphis with the Triple-A Redbirds who are also home that Tuesday through Sunday before hitting the road the next week.

During the first week of August, the St. Louis team hosts the Cubs and Yankees. They are on the road during the final week of July in Toronto and Washington.

St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol told reporters on Tuesday that the team does not know where his rehab will be. He could start the process at the spring training facility in Florida before seeing at-bats at a higher level.

The 2022 season is the farewell tour for Molina as he is set to retire from baseball after this season. The future hall of fame catcher signed a one-year, $10 million deal before the season to keep him in Cardinals red.

Molina has been a big draw at Hammons Field when he's made rehab appearances with the Double-A team in the past. He last appeared for four games in 2019 and two-game stints in each 2014 and 2018.

This season, Molina has appeared in 38 games and is batting .213 with two home runs and 10 RBI. He's appeared in 8,422 games with the Cardinals over his 19-year career, has won two World Series, is a 10-time all-star and has won nine gold gloves.
