Council Rock director announces bid for GOP ticket in 178th District

A member of the Council Rock School District board of directors has thrown her hat in the ring as a Republican contender in the state House 178th District race.

Wrightstown resident Kristin Marcell announced her candidacy Wednesday days after current Rep. Wendi Thomas, a Republican from Northampton, said she would not seek re-election.

“With the unexpected retirement announcement from (Thomas) and seeing firsthand how decisions in Harrisburg greatly affected our students, families and small businesses during the pandemic, our community deserves to have a strong voice fighting for them in the Capital,” said Marcell.

Marcell has served on the Council Rock school board since August 2018, when she was appointed following the resignation of Kyle McKessy.

She won her seat as the district's Region 9 director in November 2019, followed by a successful re-election bid this past November.

“After serving on the Council Rock School Board for almost four years and working together with my board colleagues to navigate through these difficult times to safely reopen our schools and keep them open, I believe I am well-prepared to represent our community as the next state representative for the 178th legislative district,” Marcell added.

Marcell is a public relations and marketing executive and a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and George Washington University.
