Council re-submits plan to move 78 allotments
Plans to replace dozens of allotments that were lost as part of a regeneration project are to come before councillors for a second time.
An application for 78 allotment plots has been submitted by Guildford Borough Council to replace those at the Bellfields site.
The plots are being relocated to a green belt site to accommodate the Weyside Urban Village project for 1,500 homes.
The council's application says: "The current application seeks to formalise changes to the site boundary and layout of the allotments and design of associated facilities to enable the allotments to be completed and made available for use."
Permission for the relocation was approved in June 2020, but has been resubmitted due to a boundary issue. Site clearance has already started.
Meeting documents show that the borough council realised that the site boundary shown was incorrect.
The plans were resubmitted with the boundary moved 2m further south on plans.
The design and layout of the proposed allotment facilities, including storage and toilets, were also updated in consultation with the Guildford Allotments Co-operative Society.
The proposals also include two bee keeping plots.
Each allotment plot will have a shed and a water-butt.
The application is due to be considered at a planning committee meeting on Wednesday.
