Councilors approve incentive packages, police spending

Wichita Falls city councilors on Tuesday signed off on a $285,000 incentive deal to Covercraft Industries to pay for equipment purchases and the hiring of 20 employees to add to the 135 workers already on staff.

The deal consists of a forgivable no-interest loan of $255,000 and a cash-for-jobs incentive of $6,000 per job. The company’s plant at 2720 Market St. makes custom covers for several products.

Councilors also approved a $36,500 forgivable loan incentive for Seasons Eatings Snack Company to buy equipment and hire six people. The company makes granola bars that are sold at several locations in Wichita Falls.

In other business, the council:

  • Spent $610,000 to replace one of four pumps at the Jasper Water Treatment Plant.

  • Spent $90,850 for a washer/compactor for the Northside Wastewater Treatment plant.

  • Spent $293,000 for new console systems for the Police Department dispatch center.

  • Spent $93,000 for three new BMW motorcycles for traffic officers.

  • Spent $133,464 for equipment to go aboard 11 new police cars.

  • Accepted a grant for up to $7,000 from the Dallas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for purchase of equipment, software and other items.
