Counting Crows to perform Aug. 12 at Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater

One of the 56 dates on Counting Crows’ “Banshee Season Tour” will be at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater, the band announced on Tuesday.
The Grammy, Academy Award and Golden-Globe-nominated group that gained stardom with its 1993 hit single “Mr. Jones” will be in concert Aug. 12 at the venue; the starting time will be announced.

Dashboard Confessional is the opening act. The tour kicks off June 13 in Omaha, Nebraska, runs through September and includes major cities across the United States.
Counting Crows was formed in 1991 in San Francisco by singer and main songwriter Adam Duritz and guitarist David Bryson.
Two years later they released their first album, “August and Everything After,” which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and sold more than 7 million copies in the U.S. to earn seven times platinum status.
“Mr. Jones" from the album reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top 100, propelled by a video that was in heavy rotation on MTV in the days when the network actually played music, and a 1994 appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” It reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay and Mainstream Rock charts.
The band earned Grammy nominations as Best New Artist and for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group, and won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Awards.
Reviewers at the time noted Duritz’s energetic efforts as the group’s front man, and the obvious influences of The Band, Van Morrison and REM on their music.
Their follow-up album, 1996’s “Recovering the Satellites,” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and earned double platinum status.
Counting Crows have released five studio albums since then: “This Desert Life,” 1999 (No. 8 on the Top 200, platinum); “Hard Candy,” 2002 (No. 5, gold); “Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings,” 2008 (No. 11); “Underwater Sunshine,” 2012 (No. 11); and “Somewhere Under Wonderland” (2024, No. 6). Their overall album sales total 20 million.
They released a four-song EP, “Butter Miracle,” in 2021, and toured behind it in 2022 and early this year.
Counting Crows were tapped in 2004 to write a song for the film “Shrek 2.” The result, “Accidentally in Love,” earned them an Academy Award nomination for Best Song (they performed it at the 2005 Oscars), as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song.
Current group members aside from Duritz and Bryson are multi-instrumentalists Charlie Gillingham and David Immerglück, drummer-percussionist Jim Bogios, guitarist-bassist Millard Powers and Dan Vickrey on guitar and banjo.
Dashboard Confessional originated in Boca Raton, Florida, and is led by lead singer and guitarist Chris Carrabba, a longtime friend and collaborator of Duritz.
They’re a mainstay of the emo genre (Merriam-Webster defines it as music “influenced by punk rock and featuring introspective and emotionally fraught lyrics”), and have released nine studio albums since 2000, most notably 2003’s “A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar” and 2006’s “Dusk and Summer,” each of which reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Top 200.
