If you've got healthy New American cuisine on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. Called True Food Kitchen, the fresh arrival is located in the former Plaza III space at 4749 Pennsylvania Ave. on the Country Club Plaza.

The nationwide chain is the love child of 2018 James Beard Restaurateur of the Year, Sam Fox, and celebrity alternative medicine guru, Andrew Weil. (Oprah is also an investor and board member.) Its focus on an anti-inflammatory diet results in a menu rich in fruits, nuts, vegetables and greens.

Look for vegetarian- and vegan-friendly dishes like a teriyaki quinoa bowl, a spaghetti squash casserole and a Tuscan kale salad. Carnivores will find plenty to engage them, too, including a chicken sausage pizza and a turkey burger with smashed avocado, smoked gouda and a jalapeño remoulade.

Desserts include a key lime mousse and a gluten-free, flourless chocolate cake. A long drinks menu of loose-leaf tea, fair trade coffee, wine, beer and cocktails means you'll have plenty of options — and some tough decisions — when it comes time to extend your stay on the large patio this spring.

True Food Kitchen has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 18 reviews on Yelp.

Cam V., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on April 8, wrote, "True Food is predominantly healthy, creative eats. The design and facility was beautiful. I enjoyed being able to see the food being prepped and made in the open layout."

Yelper Ali P. added, “The atmosphere was adorable. It is decorated really well and has the open air feel which will be so nice for the summer.”

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: True Food Kitchen is open from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.–9 p.m. on Sunday.
