Country legend Willie Nelson set to light up Water Works Park with an outdoor show in June

Country legend Willie Nelson will light up Des Moines in June.

The twangy Highwayman himself is bringing a deep catalog of dope country hits to Iowa on June 27 when he performs at the Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park, 2201 George Flagg Pkwy., Des Moines. He will join the summer Field Daze Music Series.

Nelson is celebrating his 90th birthday in 2023 by crisscrossing the country with multiple projects. Earlier this year, "Wille Nelson & Family," a five-part documentary series, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Nelson's most recent appearance in the metro came during a Wells Fargo Arena performance in 2018 alongside Dwight Yoakam, Robert Earl Keen, and Brandy Clark. He also headlined Hinterland in 2016 during the St. Charles music festival's second year.

Nelson will bring his catalog of songs such as "Beer For My Horses," "On The Road Again," "Georgia on My Mind," "Good-Hearted Woman," "Always on My Mind" and his Waylon Jennings collaboration "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys."

Before attending the concert, pick up The Willie Nelson drink at Beer Can Alley, the new Court Avenue joint that returned to downtown Des Moines earlier his year. The bar's tribute to the face of American folklore features a mix of coconut rum, white rum, blue Curacao, melon liqueur and pineapple.

Tickets for the concert go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. on FieldDazeDSM.com.
