Country singer John Berry reveals tonsil cancer diagnosis

John Berry, known for songs including "Your Love Amazes Me" and "Beautifully Broken," recently had surgery to remove tumors in his tonsils.

Country love song master John Berry is asking for thoughts, prayers and well-wishes from fans following his recent diagnosis of tonsil cancer.

In a video posted to Facebook, Berry said he got a catch in his throat in November that felt like the skin of a Spanish peanut had gotten stuck. When he couldn't jar it loose, he looked down his throat with a flashlight and noticed his tonsils were swollen. He took two rounds of antibiotics and steroids from his doctor, but the problem didn't go away. Berry's wife, Robin, pushed him to see an ear, nose and throat specialist on Jan. 4, who ordered a CAT scan of Berry's throat.

"They found that he had two tumors in his tonsils and we're so grateful that it was contained to the tonsils and they were able to take both tonsils out," Robin Berry said. "You don't see fear on these faces. We have a planned regimen."

Berry is set for five weeks of cancer treatment. The type of cancer with which he was diagnosed has a cure rate of 90 percent.

"It's one of the most highly treatable," John Berry explained.

However, a few of Berry's concert dates have been impacted.

The couple said they realize fans will want to reach out to the "Your Love Amazes Me" singer amid his health crisis and encourage them to do so.

"There is nothing greater that John needs right now than to hear from you guys that love him very much," Robin Berry said.

"Robin and I have a Bible verse that we’ve been claiming in this time," John Berry said. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
