Country singer Justin Carter has died after an accidental shooting, according to Fox News. The up-and-coming artist was 35 years old.

His mother, Cindy McClellan, spoke to Fox and explained that Justin was filming a music video when the tragedy occurred. She said the gun, which was allegedly being used as a prop, was in his pocket and “went off and caught my son in the corner of his eye.”

His loved ones also appear to have confirmed the news on Instagram with the following post, though the account is unverified:

ABC11 and Entertainment Weekly reported that Justin recently signed a deal with Triple Threat Management, and Mark Atherton, who’s associated with the company, said Justin “had a potential” to be the next Garth Brooks. According to his Instagram, he had just released a new single titled, “Love Affair.” His had also recorded songs called "Times Get Rough," "Cowboy Code," and "Wouldn't Know.'

Justin reportedly leaves behind two daughters, Dixie and Kaylee. His family has set up a PayPal to help cover funeral and burial costs.

“He was a wonderful artist,” Cindy told Fox. “He was the voice, he was the total package and we’re trying to keep his legend [alive.]”
