Kane Brown is still reeling after the tragic death of his drummer, Kenny Dixon.

Kane attended the CMT Artists of the Year ceremony just days after his band mate was killed in a car accident at 27 years old. When accepting an award at the event, Kane couldn’t keep from holding back tears as he paid tribute to his friend.

“I want to dedicate this to my drummer, Kenny,” he said in his tearful speech. “He started with me coming out of Chattanooga off Facebook. People didn’t think we would make it. He was with me the whole time. He was so supportive of me. I love you man, I miss you. The band misses you.”

Kane then thanked his management, his fans, and the country music community before singing off with, “Bless you guys, y’all stay safe.”

Kenny was remembered many times throughout the night. Thomas Rhett used his time on stage to pray for Kenny’s loved ones. “I just want to lift up Kane and his family,” Thomas said, according to the Tennessean. “And I want to lift up his drummer and their family. Can I just pray, really fast? Is it OK with everybody?”

Reba McEntire also teared up at the exchange, thanking Thomas for offering a moment for everyone to honor the late musician.

Kenny passed away on Saturday, October 12. He is survived by his fiancée, Sarah, and their son Levi.
