Country star will headline post-Valentine’s Day concert at a local music venue

Valentine’s Day was on Wednesday, but some venues around Wichita are continuing the celebration into the weekend.

One of them is local music venue Wichita Union Stockyards, which will put on a concert by country star Ty Herndon this weekend. Tickets to the special Valentine’s Day show include a meal.

The weekend entertainment calendar also includes the big flea market, an annual bluegrass festival and a show by several well-known gospel stars.

Here’s a look at some of the biggest events happening in Wichita this weekend and into next week:

Ty Herndon at Union Stockyards

7 p.m. Saturday, Wichita Union Stockyards, 6521 W. MacArthur Road

Country singer/songwriter Ty Herndon, known for songs like “What Mattered Most” and “It Must Be Love,” will perform a special Valentine’s Day show on Saturday at Wichita Union Stockyards. Return of the flea market

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Kansas Star Casino Arena, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulvane,

The Wichita Flea Market is back for its February installment and runs Saturday and Sunday at the Kansas Star Casino Arena in Mulvane. The event will feature at least 200 vendors selling antiques, crafts, vintage items, comics, jewelry, toys, food and more. This month’s installment also will feature a scavenger hunt with cash prizes. The flea market is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets, available at the door, are $3 or $5 for a two-day pass. Children 12 and under get in free.

Bluegrass festival

Friday-Saturday, Wichita Marriott, 9100 Corporate Hills Drive

The Kansas Bluegrass Association is putting on its 34th Annual Winter Bluegrass Festival this weekend, and the two-day event will feature performers like AJ Lee & Blue Summit, The Rick Faris Band, Midnight Hollow, Harman & Ruble Band, Pretend Friend, John Depew & Andrew Morris, the Taylor Martin Band, and The Boiler Room Boys. The festival happens Friday and Saturday at the Wichita Marriott. Two-day tickets are $75, Saturday-only tickets are $50, and Friday evening-only tickets are $40. Tickets are available at the door. Gospel legends at Century II

7 p.m. Saturday, Century II Convention Hall, 225 W. Douglas

The Legends Tour, which arrives at Century II’s Convention Hall on Saturday, features gospel stars Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Sapp, Hezekiah Walker, Anthony Brown and Fred Hammond. ‘Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus!’

10 a.m. and noon Friday and Saturday, Crown Uptown Theatre, 3207 E. Douglas

Wichita Children’s Theatre & Dance Center continues its Once Upon A Time series with performances this weekend of “Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus! The Musical!” based on the book by Mo Willems. Shows, which will be at the Crown Uptown Theatre, happen at 10 a.m. and noon on Friday and Saturday, and pizza will be served before the noon shows at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $9 or $11 with pizza. Postmodern Jukebox

7 p.m. Tuesday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox will bring its “The Ten Tour” to Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre on Tuesday. The group is known for re-imagining recognizable pop hits as songs from classic genres like 1920s jazz, doo-wop, Motown and more. The show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets range from $29 to $103.
