Country traditionalist Gary Allan to perform June 23 at Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater

Country singer Gary Allan is the latest addition to the concert schedule at the Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater in Albertville.

Allan, who achieved gold or platinum status with seven of his 10 studio albums, is set to perform on June 23 at the venue, according to a news release distributed Tuesday. Ticket sales begin at 10 a.m. Friday at https://bit.ly/3G0qHQ5. Prices and the starting time are to be announced.

The show will take place a day before the inaugural Sand Mountain Summer Fest rap concert featuring Petey Pablo, Bubba Sparxxx, Juvenile, Yung Joc and Roscoe Dash.

Also scheduled this year are Casting Crowns; Corridos Tumbados Fest with Gabito Ballesteros and Oscar Maydon; Boz Scaggs; Make More Memories Fest with the All-American Rejects, Plain White T’s and Hawthorn Heights; the Goo Goo Dolls; Counting Crows and Ramon Ayala.

A California native, Allan is known for his traditionalist stance in the country genre, with a nod to the Bakersfield Sound of Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and, later, Dwight Yoakam.

He grew up in a musical family, first performing in public at age 12 and spending his teen years playing in honky tonks with his father.

Allan continued performing in clubs after graduating from high school, and eventually was pursued by various Nashville labels after some early recordings came to the attention of A&R representatives. He ultimately signed with Decca and his first album, “Used Heart for Sale,” in 1996 reached No. 20 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and achieved gold status.

He moved over to MCA Nashville for his third and breakthrough album, 1999’s “Smoke Rings in the Dark,” which topped out at No. 9 on the country albums chart and No. 84 in the Billboard Top 200, and reached platinum status. “Right Where I Need to Be” from the album became his first Top 5 country single.

Allan’s next two albums, 2001’s “Alright Guy” and 2003’s “See If I Care,” also achieved platinum status and reached No. 4 and No. 2, respectively, on the country albums chart.

“Alright Guy” provided his first No. 1 country single, “Man to Man.” “See If I Care” also reached No. 17 in the Top 200 and featured two No. 1 country singles, “Tough Little Boys” and “Nothing On but the Radio.”

“Tough All Over” from 2005 was his first No. 1 country album and achieved gold status, as did 2007’s "Living Hard," which reached No. 3. They also gave Allan his highest placement in the Top 200, each album reaching No. 3, and provided three more Top 10 singles: “Best I Ever Had” and “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful” from “Tough All Over,” and “Watching Airplanes” from “Living Hard.”

“Get Off on the Pain” from 2010 reached No. 2 on the country albums chart and No. 5 in the Top 200. Three years later, Allan topped both charts and earned another gold album with “Set You Free,” which featured the No. 1 country single “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain).”

Allan’s most recent album, and his last for MCA Nashville (he announced last fall that he was leaving the label) is 2021’s “Ruthless,” which reached No. 8 on the country albums chart.

He’ll be part of a co-headliners tour with Tracy Lawrence, beginning in May, but the Albertville concert will feature him alone.
