FREMONT — As Ohio is considering eliminating diaper tax, Sandusky County Job and Family Services and the Sandusky County Public Health Department entered into a joint venture to assist Sandusky County WIC eligible families struggling to make ends mee

Starting Thursday, for a limited time, families in the Sandusky County WIC program will be eligible for a basket of baby items.

Items in the basket will include diapers, wipes, and health and safety items. WIC families with infants from birth to age 6 months can contact the Sandusky County Public Health WIC office at 419-334-6363 for program eligibility and an application.

A box of 72 diapers will cost around $43, before sales tax, which could add another $3.50. With the formula shortage, rising gas prices and inflation, Director Melanie Allen and Public Health Commissioner Bethany Brown felt a combined effort was necessary to assist low-income families and children.

Allen indicated the strong desire to make every effort to filter dollars to local families who are caring for our youngest population.

“We have modeled this program after other county efforts to bring some relief to families caring for infants in this county," Allen said.
