County commissioners get update on the new Fairfield Center complex in Pickerington

LANCASTER − The Fairfield County Board of Commission on Tuesday heard a presentation from Emergency Management Agency/facilities director Jon Kochis about the county's plans for the new Fairfield Center in Pickerington. The center is on the former Ohio University campus site on Stonecreek Drive.

Here are some highlights of the commission's weekly meeting:

  • The county plans to open a drive-through window for the county clerk's office at the Fairfield Center. The office moved to the center over the winter from Hill Road in Pickerington.

  • The county paid about $2.7 million for the Fairfield Center and has put around $3.6 million into for a total expense of $6.4 million. Commissioner Jeff Fix said the money is worth it because it makes 50,000 people living in the northwest part of Fairfield County feel connected to the rest of the county.

  • The county and the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles are talking about the agency moving into the Fairfield Center when its lease expires in June next year. The BMV is currently located on Hill Road.

  • County treasurer Jim Bahnsen said property tax bills are due July 20.

  • Bahnsen is also on the city's Fourth of July fireworks committee and said about 30,000 people are expected to attend next week's annual display.

  • The commissioners will not meet next Tuesday because of the Fourth of July holiday.
