A couple county and community fairs already have happened in northwestern Pennsylvania, but fair season starts in earnest the first weekend of August with the Venango County Fair and extends into September with the popular Albion Area Fair.
Here's a look at northwestern Pennsylvania community fairs this summer in chronological order of when they begin:

Venango County Fair
Dates: Aug. 5-12
Location: 867 Mercer Road, Franklin

Admission: $7 daily, 8 and older; $25 weekly; $5 grandstand; $10 pit pass
Highlights: Queen pageant Aug 6, 6:30 p.m.; bluegrass night Aug. 9, 7 p.m.; demolition derby Aug. 12, 6 p.m.
Cochranton Community Fair
Dates: Aug. 7-12
Location: 141 River St. Ext., Cochranton

Admission: Free
Highlights: Horse show Aug. 6, noon; musician Morgan White Aug. 12, 7-10 p.m., followed by fireworks.
Jefferson Township Fair
Dates: Aug. 8-12

Admission: Free Tuesday; $8 Wednesday-Saturday (12 and older).
Highlight: Horse show Aug. 12, 9 a.m.; fireworks Aug. 12, 10 p.m.

Warren County Fair
Dates: Aug. 8-12
Location: 371 Barton Run, Pittsfield

Admission: 2 and under free ($6 upgrade at carnival booth for midway rides); $30 family five pack of five gates passes; $10 per person at gate.
Highlights: Chute-out rodeo Aug. 7, 6:30 p.m.; musician Tracy Byrd Aug. 8, 7:30 p.m.; musician Jake Worthington Aug. 9, 7:30 p.m.; fireworks Aug. 12, 10 p.m.
Crawford County Fair
Dates: Aug. 20-26
Location: 13291 Dickson Road, Meadville

Admission: Free Aug. 20; $8 per person Aug. 21-26; weekly pass $30. Additional fees for grandstand and ride-a-rama passes. Cash only at all gates.

Erie County Fair at Wattsburg
Dates: Aug. 28-Sept. 2
Location: 13993 Routes 8 and 89, Wattsburg

Admission: $10 for general gate admission including rides; $10 for weekly button not including rides; free gate entrance for ages 5 and under, military retirees, active military and reservists not including rides; $5 ride upgrade per day; additional fee for Thursday and Friday night grandstand.

Great Stoneboro Fair
