County confirms Fair Board members in districts

Feb. 7—Fair Board results topped the Stephens County Commissioners meeting on Monday morning as county officials appointed fair board members while handling other business matters.

The board opened with business to certify the results from the Election of Board of Directors of the Stephens County Fair Board.

The board affirmed three appointments for Fair Board members to office terms. This includes Burton W. Derryberry, who ran unopposed representing District 1; Jacob W. Hankins, elected, representing District 2; and James E. Hill, elected, representing District 3. All of the terms for all three positions are for a three-year term.

From there, Commissioner Russell Morgan then gave his weekly report on the Stephens County Fairgrounds, as well as the update for the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant projects.

During Morgan's ARPA report, he said he would like other opinions on what to do with the remaining funds.

"I'd like to set a budget for the fairgrounds project, before we start moving forward with that," he said.

Morgan asked for the item to be on the agenda to discuss next week.

At the same time, Morgan said he'd also like to see them come together to set a budget for the previous building belonging to The Duncan Banner, which now belongs to the county, and the courthouse.

In new business, Emergency Manager Gary Curtis talked with the board about putting two more monitors in the courthouse.

"It will all be operated with emergency management," Curtis said. "Also, any type of information the departments needed will be on there."

Maintenance Director Steve Kaeser said he talked with Curtis about putting the monitors (televisions) in the entryway around the elevators.

Curtis said the monitors would provide emergency information.

"Other than that, it's just showing weather," he said.

Morgan asked if court information would be able to show on the screens.

Curtis confirmed that it would be able to show slides about pertinent information on the courthouse and the equipment would be able to come from his budget.

In other news, the board approved:

▪ To acknowledge an application for a multiunit horizontal well filed by Continental Resources, Inc.

▪ To table a bid for a 50 KW Generator for District #3.

The Stephens County Commissioners meeting will convene again at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 13, in their office of the Stephens County Courthouse, located at 101 S. 11th Street.
