“If we cannot see the possibility of greatness, how can we dream it?” - Lee Strasberg

Fostering connection and empowerment for community members of all abilities, The Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities – known colloquially as Fairfield DD – is committed to redefining what is possible.

From medical access to educational assistance, employment resources and residential options, Fairfield DD removes barriers to opportunity while increasing awareness of the needs of individuals with disabilities. This is achieved through a diverse array of programs and partnerships, encompassing Forest Rose School, social enterprises such as Art & Clay on Main and Square 7 Coffee House, and a series of services designed to enable success in all stages of life.

“The mission of Fairfield DD is to bring about a vibrant community where people lead fulfilling lives and make meaningful contributions. Currently, Fairfield DD supports more than 1,500 people and their families. Our mission to support people on their path toward greater independence drives us to empower people and promote inclusiveness in our communities,” shared David Uhl, PhD., Superintendent of Fairfield DD. “Some of our work happens in the background and isn’t always visible, but the impact of Fairfield DD is significant. We are so thankful for the great support we receive in Fairfield County,” he continued.

This community engagement, which enables Fairfield DD to continually expand its outreach and advocacy, comes in many forms – including a formalized network of service providers, experts, and leaders who ensure that the work of Fairfield DD reflects diverse needs and aspirations.

Yet another vital element of Fairfield DD’s success comes from the exceptional visibility it creates for its mission and for those it serves. And this visibility is made possible by the passion of individuals who – personally inspired by the work of Fairfield DD – offer their organizations, businesses and homes as welcoming spaces for opportunity and intentional friendship.

For those who have shown such commitment to creating opportunity, the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities offers The Celebration of Possibilities – an annual event which opens hearts and doors for those served by Fairfield DD, and shines a light on the dedication of its advocates.

This year hallmarks the 13th anniversary of the Celebration of Possibilities, which has grown into an evening of entertainment, storytelling, and connection, attracting hundreds of supporters from throughout our region.

“For more than a decade, Fairfield DD has been honoring people, businesses, and organizations who help move our mission forward every day. We have a great slate of award recipients this year, and we are excited to tell their stories,” Uhl explained.

And while the work of Fairfield DD is life-changing, and sometimes life-saving, the Celebration of Possibilities sets a tone of joy – and even humor.

“This year, we are challenging guests at the Celebration to “Think Differently,” Uhl affirmed. “We are excited to welcome Derrick to Fairfield County. People will find he has a unique brand of humor, coupled with an ability to motivate people through stories.”

For those inspired to see Fairfield DD’s work in action, the Celebration of Possibilities will showcase recent achievements, recognize award recipients, and herald the vision of Fairfield DD. Tickets are still available for this year’s gala, which will take place on May 17, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Wigwam Event Center in Pickerington. The ticket cost is $30, including dinner and access to the evening’s presentation and comedy show.

To purchase tickets for the Celebration of Possibilities, guests are encouraged to call the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities at 740-652-7220. The Celebration has become the not-to-be-missed event in Fairfield County, and this year is no exception. It is going to be a great night,” Uhl concluded.
