County health department schedules drive-up clinic Tuesday for updated COVID-19 vaccine

DOVER ‒ The Tuscarawas County Health Department has received its initial supply of the Pfizer Updated COVID-19 Vaccine.

The health department is offering a limited number of appointments for a drive-up clinic to be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the the agency's offices, 897 E. Iron Ave., Dover. To make an appointment, call 330-343-5555, ext. 1740 or ext. 1810.

Scheduling phone lines are open Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The health department will be closed on Monday for the Columbus Day holiday. Scheduling lines will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Limited supply of the vaccine

Supplies of the updated COVID-19 vaccine are limited. The health department has not yet received its Moderna order. Those in high-risk categories for severe COVID-19 infection (persons 65 and older, persons with immunosuppression and/or chronic conditions, and etc.) are encouraged to get the first updated COVID-19 vaccine available to them.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the updated COVID-19 vaccine for all adults who have had at least two months pass since their last dose of the vaccine. The updated COVID-19 vaccine is also recommended for all persons 6 months and older as part of the regular vaccine series. Check with your healthcare provider if you have any questions.

Most people can still get a COVID-19 vaccine at no cost. Most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, are covering the updated COVID-19 vaccine. Check with your insurance provider if you have questions. Those who do not have insurance are encouraged to call the health department for coverage information.

The updated COVID-19 vaccines were created to more closely target currently circulating strains of the Coronavirus.
