County issues air quality advisory for inland communities

Oct. 20—An air quality advisory has been issued for the inland communities of Elsie, Jewell, Knappa, Olney and Svensen due to wildfire smoke, Clatsop County announced on Thursday.

Children, teens, older adults and anyone with lung or heart disease are advised to avoid intense outdoor activities, keep outdoor activities brief, and either relocate physical activities indoors or reschedule them, the county said in a statement.

Others should limit their exposure to the outdoors and avoid intense physical outdoor activity.

"We hope that cooler and wetter temperatures this weekend will improve air quality," Justin Gibbs, the county's emergency management director, said in a release.

The county will post air quality updates on social media.
