County judge nominates his campaign treasurer to the embattled Tarrant Appraisal board

Tarrant County commissions nominated Judge Tim O’Hare’s former campaign treasurer Tuesday to the Tarrant Appraisal District board of directors.

The nomination follows the recall of board chair Kathryn Wilemon by Keller City Council in February. Wilemon resigned after her recall, leaving the board and political leaders questioning how to fill the seat. After outcry from multiple taxing entities, the board opted to pursue the recall process, which allows taxing entities, rather than the board, to vote on a replacement.

Three members of commissioners court — O’Hare and commissioners Manny Ramirez and Gary Fickes — voted in favor of nominating Vince Puente.

In addition to serving as O’Hare campaign treasurer, Puente is the co-owner and president of marketing and sales for Southwest Office Systems. He also serves on the Finance Commission of Texas.

The nomination comes amid calls for transparency at the board, which has been the subject of public scrutiny for nearly a decade.

Earlier this month, the TAD board issued a letter of repair to Chief Appraiser Jeff Law, citing his mishandling of multiple problems at the agency.
