County officials, including new County Judge Phil Crowley, sworn in New Year's Day

A collection of county officials, some who've been there for years, some just starting their new roles, gathered in the Taylor County Courthouse's jury room on New Year's Day to take their oaths of office.

Among them was County Judge Phil Crowley, who replaces former Judge Downing Bolls, elected in 2010.

Bolls' last day was Saturday.

Crowley, who previously served as an assistant district attorney for the county, was sworn in by 350th District Court Judge Thomas Wheeler.

He then, in his judge's robes, swore in a couple of county officials himself, both of them justice of the peace positions.

Crowley won a two-man race in the 2022 Republican Primary to secure the position. He hits the ground running Tuesday with his first commissioners court meeting.

After the brief ceremony, Crowley said he was "excited to finally be able to get to work for the people of Taylor County."

"I can't wait to start on Tuesday," he said, adding that he'd already studied up on his first meeting agenda and was looking forward to working with his fellow representatives.

Some of the new county officials were needed immediately, even though it was a holiday for most.

District Clerk Tammy Robinson was scheduled to be sworn in at the ceremony, but had to take her oath earlier in the day to execute a warrant.

Sworn in Sunday were:

  • Paul Rotenberry, 326th District Judge
