County reports 57th COVID-related death
Jun. 15—WADESBORO — Even as the county and the rest of the country seems to be returning to "normal," COVID-19 is still running through communities and claiming lives.
The Anson County Health Department reported a COVID-19-related death on June 14. The total number of deaths in the county is now at 57. The last time the health department reported a death was on March 22.
There has been a total of 2,619 COVID-19 cases with only 12 of those cases currently active.
"We're averaging about two new cases a day," Health Department Director Fred Thompson said to the County Commissioners on June 1. "Sometimes it will bump up to three or four. There have been several days we haven't had any new cases."
As of June 13, 31% of Ansonians are fully vaccinated, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services website. There are 8,194 residents with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
In North Carolina, 41% of the population has been fully vaccinated.
The health department is still administering the Moderna vaccine at the EMS base off of Country Club Drive. Vaccinations are now being limited to only Tuesdays because the demand for getting vaccinated decreased.
Governor Roy Cooper announced a $4 Million Summer Cash and College Tuition drawing as a way to motivate those who have not yet been vaccinated to become vaccinated and win big.
North Carolinians 18-years and older who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be entered into one of four drawings to win $1 million. Those between the ages of 12 and 17 will also be entered into a $125,000 pot to put towards post-secondary education.
The first drawing start on June 23 and take place every other Wednesday. If you want your chance to win, schedule an appointment to get your vaccine.
