Couple accused of running unlicensed weed dispensary at Route 73 business

EVESHAM – A Burlington County couple are accused of running a bootleg marijuana shop from a storefront on a busy highway here.

Investigators seized about 450 pounds of suspected marijuana, edibles and related products during raids on the unlicensed business on the 900 block of South Route 73, as well as the couple’s home and vehicles, according toEvesham police.

Matthew Quinn, 45, and Crystal Cain, 30, both of Cookstown, came under investigation after police received a tip in August about marijuana sales at a store rented by the couple. Investigators conducted surveillance and made undercover purchases as part of the probe.

“The business was fortified by way of barring the windows and adding sheet metal to the front door,” says a probable cause statement for the suspects’ arrest.

Police have provided no additional information about the shop.

The investigation led to raids on Nov. 8 at the store and at the suspects' home on the 100 block of Cookstown-New Egypt Road.

The couple were arrested at their residence.

In a statement, the police department said the case shows “a blatant disregard” for the state’s new laws allowing the sale of recreational marijuana at licensed sites.

It vowed to "vigorously enforce" laws against the unregulated sale of cannabis products "while honoring the same laws afforded to our residents for recreational use and legal sale of marijuana.."

Charges against Quinn and Cain include distribution of more than 25 pounds of marijuana, possession of more than six ounces of marijuana and fortifying a CDS facility.

The charges are only allegations. Quinn and Cain have not been convicted in the case.
