Couple charged in August shooting that might be related to earlier Hagerstown murder

A boyfriend and girlfriend have been charged with trying to murder another couple in an Aug. 22 shooting that left the female victim with a bullet wound, according to Washington County District Court records.

The shooting on Clarkson Avenue in Hagerstown occurred shortly before midnight on Monday, Aug. 22.

Christian Terrance Thrower, 22, and his girlfriend, Lakin Anieche Spoonhour, 21, of Fayetteville, Pa., are each charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder of Kaylee Ramirez and Cameron Little in the shooting, according to court records. Thrower has a Memphis, Tenn., address in charging documents, while an online court docket for the case lists a West Side Avenue address in Hagerstown's West End.

Thrower and Spoonhour also face two counts each of first- and second-degree assault and one count each of reckless endangerment and the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.

Officers in the area of Jonathan and Church streets on Tuesday recognized and apprehended Thrower and Spoonhour on warrants for the shooting, according to an email from Lt. Rebecca Fetchu, spokesperson for Hagerstown Police. Lakin was taken into custody without incident.

Thrower tried to run but was caught, Fetchu wrote. During the foot pursuit, Thrower allegedly tossed a revolver that police recovered. Thrower was charged with one count each of having a handgun on his person and having a loaded handgun on him, Fetchu wrote.

Thrower and Spoonhour were being held without bond Thursday at the Washington County Detention Center.

Clarkson Avenue shooting appears to be 'planned and executed attack'

Hagerstown Police, in court records, state the attempted murders of Ramirez and Little, while on a Clarkson Avenue porch, "appeared to be a planned and executed attack." Police noted the suspects' car circled the area prior to the shooting and dropped off a male in the 600 block of North Prospect Street who was seen approaching the area of the shooting on foot.

Ramirez, who was shot in the arm, told police her boyfriend, Little, was close friends with Kevin Nunn, one of three men charged with the March shooting death of Jermaine Reed II in Hagerstown's West End, court records state.

Ramirez told police she had heard "people were coming after Little" because he is close to Nunn and that a male named "Christian" was "possibly involved" and is Reed's cousin, court records state.

A month or two before the Clarkson Avenue shooting, Ramirez and Little were at a Sheetz where they ended up next to "Christian," court records state. Ramirez told police there was "a lot of tension as Little and Christian were staring each other down."

What happened during the Clarkson Avenue shooting?

Ramirez first told police she heard a fight outside her home and saw a group of five or more males sitting on the stairs outside her home, "arguing over a song," court records state. She told police she heard a man say, "I'll be back with my pistol."

Ramirez told police she didn't really "think anything of it" and went to sit outside with her boyfriend, Little. The group outside had broken up shortly after the male said he was getting his gun. About 15 minutes after the man left, she and Little were sitting on the deck when a vehicle drove southbound in the alley parallel to the east side of North Prospect Street and which oversees her address, court records state.

Ramirez recounted hearing about two gunshots and running inside where she realized she had been shot in the right arm, court records state. The bullet shattered her humorous bone.

Bullet holes were found in the home's front window; in the front door and near the door of a neighboring abandoned home; and in a black Jeep parked out front, court records state. Police found 9 mm shell casings on the hill, next to the alley.

Witnesses told police they saw a vehicle drive down the alley as the shots were heard.

Surveillance video footage police reviewed showed the vehicle going south in the alley and slowing down at the end of Clarkson Avenue, court records state. Two people on the porch react to being shot at and "dive into the house," while it appears dust flies from bullet strikes around the porch area, court records state. The vehicle then speeds away.

Hagerstown Police worked with multiple police agencies in Pennsylvania to identify the vehicle's owner, a Chambersburg, Pa., woman who works with Spoonhour and loaned Spoonhour her car, according to court records.

Spoonhour was identified as the driver of the vehicle suspected in the Clarkson Avenue shooting and Thrower was a passenger, court records state. A possible third person in the car remains unknown, according to charging documents.

What happened in the murder of Jermaine Reed II?

Kevin Dwayne Nunn, 27, of Walkersville, Md.; Bradley Nathan Walker, 24, of Clear Spring; and Berquan Howard Carroll, 23, of Hagerstown; are each charged with first- and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first- and second-degree murder, and other offenses in the St. Patrick's Day shooting of Reed.

All three continued to be held without bond in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting trials next year.

Reed, 27, of Hagerstown, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on a sidewalk near Alexander and Dale streets. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center, where he died, Hagerstown Police wrote in charging documents.

Police previously said Reed didn't live in the immediate area and might have been visiting a friend or acquaintance when he was the victim of a targeted shooting. They also reported that a vehicle and a house were struck by gunfire.

A police review of surveillance camera footage showed Reed sitting in his vehicle parked on Alexander Street when a Honda Accord pulled up next to him and two people in the back seat leaned out of the windows on both sides and began firing handguns at him and his vehicle, charging documents state. Reed got out of his vehicle and ran north on the sidewalk while the shooters continued firing at him. He collapsed on the sidewalk.

Nunn and a fourth person in the vehicle — both sitting in the backseat — were at first identified in charging documents as both being the alleged gunmen.

The Herald-Mail did not name the fourth person in an earlier story because a search of online court records did not reveal any charges in Washington County against anyone with that name. Hagerstown Police, in an email on Thursday, said the fourth person has been ruled out as a suspect in the Reed murder.
