Couple killed flying plane from Florida to Georgia were ‘seasoned pilots,’ family says

A couple flying their personal plane fatally crashed on their way from Florida to Georgia, cops said.

Robert Denton, 76, and wife Sandra Denton, 75, left Leesburg, Florida, on April 27 in their single-engine Cessna 177B airplane, according to a news release from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

The two, both pilots, were on their way to Winder, Georgia, when their plane crashed just 20 miles short of the airport, the sheriff’s office said.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash just after 2:30 p.m. and found the Dentons deceased.

Deputies did not release the cause of the crash but said the investigation had been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, according to the release.

The Dentons were described as “seasoned pilots” by their family, in a statement shared by the sheriff’s office.

“While taken from us far too soon, we find comfort knowing they were together and doing what they loved, flying,” the family said.

The Dentons were from Michigan and also spent time in Florida, according to their family.

“Robert and Sandra lived life to the fullest and were two of the most thoughtful and loving people you could know,” the family said.
