Couple sentenced in animal hoarding case after dozens of living, deceased pets found in, outside Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Two people accused of hoarding several animals in and outside of Las Vegas were sentenced on Tuesday.

Carolyn Luke and Timothy Miller were given a two-and-a-half-year suspended jail sentence with credit for 27 days already served. They will be released on house arrest under GPS monitoring.

The two were also fined $305 on each of the five counts. They are also expected to take 12 sessions of counseling.

According to documents obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators, in March, Boulder City officers stopped the couple for a broken taillight after receiving a tip.

“When the occupants rolled down a window, officers could smell dead animals inside the car,” officers said in a news release.

In all, police and animal control officers found 51 guinea pigs and rabbits, including the 11 deceased animals.

In Las Vegas, police found 30 dogs, 10 deceased, in a hotel room, Healing said. A search of a nearby home also found 15 dogs and more guinea pigs.

Part of the sentence also included that the couple cannot own any animals and must also be assigned 48 hours of community service on each of the five counts they face, according to court records.
