Couple sues hospital alleging negligence

Jan. 16—An Ocean Shores, Washington, couple is suing Columbia Memorial Hospital for alleged negligence.

John Reagan, a former patient at the Astoria hospital, claims that a misdiagnosed foot condition led to worsening health issues and permanent injuries. The lawsuit was filed earlier this month in Circuit Court.

The lawsuit alleges that Reagan was seen at the hospital on several occasions in December 2020 for extreme foot pain, which was misdiagnosed as gout. Reagan's condition significantly declined, leading to foot ischemia, gangrenous toe, prolonged arterial thrombosis and ischemic neuropathy, the lawsuit claims.

Reagan also alleges that the hospital's negligence resulted in disability and chronic pain.

John and his wife, Jan, are asking for over $4 million in compensation for previous and future medical bills, loss of household services, loss of consortium and other noneconomic damages.

A doctor and a nurse practitioner are also named in the lawsuit.

The hospital declined to comment.

George McCoy, a Portland-based lawyer representing the Reagans, could not be reached for comment.
