Couples can get married for free this Valentine’s Day in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — San Diego couples wanting to get married at the courthouse are in luck this month.

The Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation, in partnership with the San Diego County Assessor’s Office, is spreading the love on Valentine’s Day by offering free weddings for nearly two dozen couples.

On Wednesday, the foundation is covering the costs of the first 20 weddings at the County Administration Center starting at 7:30 a.m.

“My dad loved Valentine’s Day and always looked for ways to spread joy on this special day,” expressed Miles Himmel, Founder of the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation. “In keeping with my dad’s spirit, we want to continue the tradition by helping couples tie the knot.”

Marriage license fees and any other incurred fees will be covered for the lucky couples looking to cement their love on Valentine’s Day.

“Nearly two decades ago, Larry Himmel himself officiated a wedding at the County building on Valentine’s Day,” remarked Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Jordan Marks. “In honoring his memory, I am thrilled to partner with the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation to extend this tradition and offer 20 couples the opportunity to create cherished memories on their special day.”

San Diego County accepting walk-ins for couples wanting to get married on Leap Day

Later this month, San Diego County is accepting walk-in couples to get married on Leap Day.
