Couples wanted for Valentine’s Day wedding ceremony in Tijuana

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Couples who want to get married during a mass-wedding ceremony in Tijuana on Valentine’s Day are encouraged to register by Saturday at Tijuana’s city hall.

Angélica Félix Domínguez, with the city of Tijuana, said recent rains have kept a lot of people from applying.

“Many have chosen not to go outside and stay home, that’s why we decided to extend the deadline through February 10,” said Félix Domínguez. “We’ll be here through 2 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.

She said so far, 1,300 couples had registered to celebrate their marriage vows on the “day of love and friendship.”

Last year, 1,500 couples took the plunge during a similar large-scale ceremony.

Félix Domínguez is also encouraging same-sex couples to participate.

“We are an inclusive government where everyone in the community, regardless of sexual orientation, can be married without a problem and with the same registration requirements as any other couple.”

The mass-wedding celebration will take place on Wednesday at noon at Morelos Park in the city of Tijuana.

It is located at Avenida Insurgentes 16000 in the Rio Zone about 10 minutes from the border.
