Courier editor: Print subscribers will see some changes soon. Here's what's up.

I've seen a lot of changes in the way people, myself included, read The Courier over the roughly three decades I've worked here as a reporter and editor.

I started before the internet, when printed newspapers were the only way people in Terrebonne and Lafourche could get the news, sports and other local information we deliver.

Since then, most of our readers have moved online and now access The Courier via cellphone or computer. This transition, happening around the world, has been driven by readers, and we have met their changing habits with an array of digital offerings that include our website, cellphone app, social media channels and more. At the same time, we have remained committed to delivering a newspaper and are the only news organization based in Terrebonne Parish that does so.

The latest steps in this transition will come in the next few days.

The Courier is asking its print subscribers to embrace a new reading habit with a digital-only version of the Sunday paper. We'll no longer deliver a print edition to homes and newsstands on Sundays.

Instead, you can find a combined Saturday-Sunday e-edition, with the same look and news content of the printed paper, at houmatoday.com or via the Houma Courier e-edition cellphone app at the Apple App Store or Google Play.

The e-edition will have all of the local content that has traditionally appeared in the Saturday and Sunday papers. It also has some additional features, such as the ability to clip and share articles with friends and family and adjust the text size.

In addition, Courier subscribers now have access to the USA TODAY Network’s e-editions across the country, including its flagship newspaper, USA TODAY. The Courier is part of the USA TODAY Network, and these changes are taking place at many of its other publications.

And the printed coupons and many of the advertising specials that had appeared in Sunday's newspaper will be included in Saturday's print edition.

Also, starting Monday, The Courier's print subscribers will receive their newspaper by mail instead of traditional carrier. Our sister paper, the Daily Comet in Thibodaux, made that shift nearly four years ago, and this form of delivery has become commonplace across the country.

If you have questions about your subscription or these changes, check out help.houmatoday.com or call our customer service department at 857-2222.

Subscribe now: New digital subscribers can get the first six months of unlimited access for only $1.

One thing that won't change is this: The Courier will continue to provide the most comprehensive coverage of Terrebonne and Lafourche — high-quality, local journalism you won't find anywhere else. Your subscription helps us do that, and all of us here at The Courier are grateful for your support.
