The Courier ends Sunday delivery today. Here's what's ahead.

Today is the last day of home delivery for the Sunday Courier.

Starting this coming week, the newspaper will print a combined Saturday-Sunday edition. It will be delivered on Saturdays.

In addition, starting Monday, The Courier will be delivered by the U.S. Postal Service instead of traditional carrier. The Courier's sister paper, the Daily Comet in Thibodaux, made that shift nearly four years ago, and this form of delivery has become commonplace across the country.

Courier and Daily Comet Executive Editor Keith Magill notified subscribers of the changes in a letter earlier this month and a column published on Thursday's front page.

"These changes are part of our continuing transition to digital formats that are now preferred by most of our readers," Magill said. "That includes our website, cellphone app, social media channels and more. At the same time, we have remain committed to delivering a print newspaper and are the only news organization based in Terrebonne Parish that does so."

The combined Saturday-Sunday paper, like all of The Courier's print editions, will be available as an e-edition at houmatoday.com or via cellphone apps available the Apple App Store or Google Play. The e-edition allows readers to flip through pages just like the print newspaper and has some additional features, such as the ability to clip and share articles with friends and family and adjust the text size.

In addition, Courier subscribers now have access to the USA TODAY Network’s e-editions across the country, including its flagship newspaper, USA TODAY. The Courier is part of the USA TODAY Network, and these changes are taking place at many of its other publications.

Print subscribers have unlimited access to all of The Courier's digital offerings.

"Readers will still get the same local news, sports and information that was included in the Sunday paper," Magill said. "We'll shift that news to our combined Saturday-Sunday edition."

The coupons and many of the advertising specials that had appeared in Sunday's newspaper will also be included in Saturday's print edition.

After these changes, both The Courier and its sister paper, the Daily Comet in Thibodaux, will deliver print newspapers six days a week, Monday through Saturday, by mail.

"One thing that won't change is this: The Courier will continue to provide the most comprehensive coverage of Terrebonne and Lafourche — high-quality, local journalism you won't find anywhere else," Magill said. "Your subscription helps us do that, and all of us here at The Courier are grateful for your support."
