Details: The decision was made by the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv on 25 July.

Ponomariov was arrested for 60 days.

The MP's defence announced the recusal of the judge, but their motion was declined.

Background:

  • Case materials of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine state that on 24 July, Ponomariov was served with a notice of suspicion of high treason.

  • The security forces of Ukraine established that the member of political party Opposition Platform – For Life, which is now forbidden in Ukraine, had switched to the Russians’ side at the beginning of the war. He went from Kyiv to the occupied city of Berdiansk on the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion.

  • In order to preserve his own fortune and businesses located in the occupied city of Berdiansk, Ponomariov started collaborating with the occupiers.

  • Due to commercial arguments with the invaders, Ponomariov decided to come back to non-occupied territory of Ukraine. The operative information says that businesses affiliated with him are still lodging with the Russian military, providing them with food, fuel and lubricants.
