$5M bond for man who said he shot Batavia tattoo studio owner 17 times over money dispute

A $5 million bond has been set for a man who told Clermont County investigators that he shot another man 17 times Sunday because the man owed him money and "it was someone he thought was his friend."

That's according to records filed in Clermont County Municipal Court. On Monday, a judge scheduled a preliminary hearing on Jan. 19 for 32-year-old Michael Guilfoyle Jr. of Amelia.

Guilfoyle is in the county jail, charged with aggravated murder and robbery in the death of Brian Wilson, 42, of Batavia.

The shooting happened near Stay Gold Tattoo studio in Batavia Township, which Wilson owned, according to a Fox19 report.

Criminal complaints filed by a Clermont County Sheriff's Office detective state a Pierce Township officer dispatched to the 1700 block of Ohio Pike about 11:30 a.m. Sunday heard shots fired, a pause and two more shots fired.

The officer saw Guilfoyle standing at the edge of Ohio Pike with a handgun and Wilson lying in the road, the complaints state. Officials said Sunday the shooting followed a verbal argument.

The court complaints state Guilfoyle obeyed the Pierce Township officer's order to get on the ground and told the officer why he shot Wilson.

Sheriff deputies were also dispatched to the scene and the office is investigating the death. Court records about the robbery charge do not state whether Guilfoyle took anything from Wilson.
