Court TV show to highlight Tennessee cases

In its upcoming second, "Someone They Knew...With Tamron Hall" will bring three Tennessee cases into the spotlight.

Airing on Court TV, the show, hosted by Hall, is a true-crime series that follows storylines from victims to verdicts.

"'Someone They Knew’ has quickly built a reputation for its storytelling of compelling and complex murder trials involving victims who knew their killers," Ethan Nelson, head of Court TV, said in a statement. "We were drawn to the Tennessee cases in season two for just that reason; they are intriguing and have many layers. Our goal is to always highlight the humanity in these stories as unobtrusively as possible and, as a result, tell them in the way they deserve to be told."

There are no voice-overs, no reporters and no correspondents, as the stories from each case is told from the point of view of people impacted.

Lawyers, jurors, police and the victim's family and friends guide episodes from start to finish, using new interviews, archival footage and crime re-creations.

Following a successful first season, season two of the series is set to debut Feb. 19.

This season, three Tennessee cases will get their day in the sun.

Here is a synopsis of each case:

"A Hit with a Bullet" (Tennessee v. D'Antonio) – Feb. 23

It’s not easy to score a successful song in Nashville — what they called “a bullet.” Sometimes what it takes is a little more than talent and a little less than legal. Kevin Hughes caught a different kind of bullet. Know as "Murder of Music Row," 12 years later, investigators uncovered the conspiracy that killed him.

"Holiday Horror" (Tennessee v. Guy) – March 7

When Lisa Guy failed to show up for work after Thanksgiving weekend, a wellness check led to a nightmarish discovery and would hit close to home. A discovery that would haunt investigators for years.

Mercy or Murder (Tennessee v. Leath) – March 16

Ed Dossett and David Leath were friends with a lot in common. Both were well-known around Knoxville. Both married the same woman. And both turned up dead under suspicious circumstances. When the investigation into David Leath’s apparent suicide finds inconsistencies, prosecutors take another look at Ed Dossett’s death, and they don’t like what they find.

"I have always been pulled into the ‘why’ – why crimes like this happen, and the distressing impact they bring to family, friends and loved ones,” said Hall. “It’s because of this that returning for season two is so personally important to me. I know I speak for the entire ‘Someone They Knew’ team when I say that we can’t wait to bring more of these stories to Court TV viewers."
