Courteney Cox has revealed she loved playing overweight Monica on Friends because she felt “so free”.

The actress, 55, has been binge-watching the hit comedy amid the coronavirus pandemic, after realising she could not remember it all that well.

After looking back at her most famous role she said she particularly loved being Monica Geller in the flashback episodes, where she donned a fat suit and prosthetics.

Speaking on Ellen DeGeneres’ US chat show, she said: “I loved playing overweight Monica because I felt so free.

“I could dance… like you (DeGeneres) and just sit up and dance and have no problem at all. I did love it.

“Those are really good episodes.”

Cox confessed she had not been able to remember all the details of the comedy, which co-starred Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer and ran for 10 series.

But after catching up on series one she has realised it is “really good”.

“It’s really sad but I didn’t remember at all,” she confessed.

“And people ask me all the time will you do a quiz, or play this game where you see who knows the characters the most... I don’t remember!

“I remember the people and I remember specific things that happened, but my memory is not great when it comes to fun times. I only remember pain I think.”

She went on: “So I started watching. I’ve been bingeing it. It’s really good it turns out!”

Friends wrapped up in 2004 after airing 10 series.

Earlier this year it was confirmed that all six original cast members would be back for a special on the HBO Max streaming service.

However, the reunion has been delayed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
