‘The Courtney Show’ visits a Clinton County bakery, where business is booming

Hey, remember that time I wrote about Oh So Sweet Bakery & Café in Carlyle and how the drive was totally worth the trip?

Apparently I’m not the only one who thought so.

The gang from “The Courtney Show” on 106.5 The Arch made it the first stop on their Donuts, Donuts & Donuts tour.

On Friday, June 16, Courtney Landrum, Brando and Tim Convy (Sorry, no Chris Convy. He’s out of town.) broadcast their show live from the bakery.

They were later joined by comedian and frequent Courtney Show guest Greg Warren.

Later that day, I spoke briefly to Oh So Sweet owner Cheri Mansfield to ask how the morning went.

“It was great,” said Mansfield, adding that it was just unbelievable and the turnout really great.

“I’m exhausted,” she said.

Apparently, people came out in huge numbers.

Landrum mentioned on the air that the gang had a police escort as they arrived in town.

They were welcomed by a crowd (you can see a video on the The Courtney Show Facebook page), and a welcome banner was on the grounds of Oh So Sweet.

Inside the shop were a cake and cookies decorated with The Courtney Show logo.

Mansfield said the town showed up to welcome The Courtney Show “big-time” with the police escort.

Mayor Judy Smith – who said on air that she prefers “Just Judy” – was also there to participate in the festivities.

Smith spoke of Carlyle as the “best-kept secret in Southern Illinois” with its hiking trails, General Dean Suspension Bridge and Carlyle Lake, the largest man-made lake in Illinois.

With the big crowd, Mansfield said it was so busy that they had to close the drive-thru because they couldn’t keep up.

If you missed the broadcast, you can still catch it online on The Courtney Show podcast at 1065thearch.com.

Other stops on the Donuts, Donuts & Donuts tour include:

  • June 30: Donut King, 658 1st Capitol Drive, St. Charles, Missouri;

  • July 7: Duke Bakery, 819 Henry St., Alton;

  • July 21: First Community Credit Union with Ramblin’ Rounds, 17151 Chesterfield Airport Road, Chesterfield, Missouri;

  • Aug. 4: Shamrock Donuts, 1901 Richardson Road, Arnold, Missouri;

  • Aug. 18: Kruta Bakery, 300 St. Louis Road, Collinsville.

“The Courtney Show” airs 6-10 a.m. Monday-Friday on 106.5 FM.

Aside from the big radio event bringing people to Oh So Sweet, business is good, according to Mansfield.

She said that since opening six months ago, business is going better than she could have ever imagined.

In fact, Mansfield said the business is already close to exceeding its projected numbers for the year.

That’s pretty amazing.

And she’s not slowing down.

When we spoke, she was still working and getting ready to prepare for the events booked for the weekend.

Clearly, business is very good.

If you still haven’t made the trip to Carlyle to check out Oh So Sweet Bakery & Café, seriously, what are you waiting for?
