Aug. 6—COLUMBIA — Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT 2nd District) took a tour of Columbia Manufacturing, Inc. Friday morning. This came after Courtney's office helped Columbia Manufacturing resolve an issue with the Internal Revenue Service.

Columbia Manufacturing is an equipment manufacturer located at 165 Route 66 East in Columbia.

Operating locally since 1980, Columbia Manufacturing offers a wide range of capabilities and services in their 90,000-squarefoot manufacturing facility, including machining and fabrication, sheet metal and special forming, welding, 3D modeling, complex engineering and more.

Columbia Manufacturing provides precision components for domestic and international turbine engine manufacturers. They have several major customers in the U.S. defense and aerospace industry including Pratt & Whitney, GE Aviation and many others.

Columbia Manufacturing's work is supported in-part by the work of Courtney and the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee. Many of the aircraft for which Columbia Manufacturing produces components like the F-15, F-16 and F-35 are authorized by the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, which is chaired by Courtney.

Earlier this year, Courtney's office helped Columbia Manufacturing resolve an issue with the IRS.

The manufacturer was qualified to receive a substantial Employee Retention Credit from the IRS, but their case had been repeatedly delayed.

Courtney's office was contacted by Columbia Manufacturing in late February and his staff took on the issue with the IRS.

After several months of working with IRS Taxpayer Advocates and the local manufacturer to resolve the issue, Columbia Manufacturing was awarded an IRS Employee Retention Credit of more than $ 1 million in June.
