A 23-year-old Norwich man charged in a retaliatory shooting outside The Wauregan apartments on Broadway entered a not guilty plea Monday in a New London courtroom. Richard J. David, 23, remains held on $250,000 bond in connection with shots fired in the direction of two women standing outside the Wauregan Laundromat. David was appointed public defender Jeremiah Donovan and is scheduled to return to court Thursday. He is charged with attempted first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault. At 11:44 p.m. Sept. 28, police were called to Broadway for reports of gunfire. Police found three bullet holes in the side of The Wauregan Laundromat and Morning Glories Floral Design and Pottery, which operate in The Wauregan apartment building.Police said the shots came from a Pontiac Grand Prix that had stopped near The Wauregan and had a brick thrown at its windshield by an unidentified man.An investigation led to the arrest of David and two other men who police suspect were in the car when the shots were fired.Along with David, Merzilas Braboy, 18, of Norwich and Corey Wynn, 22, of New London were charged. All three have unrelated pending drug cases.  Police believe the confrontation was a response to an earlier fight between a group of men known to the women.
