Courts Watch: Sentences, pleas and other developments in St. Cloud-area criminal cases

Editor's note: This weekly report includes new information about Stearns, Benton and Sherburne county criminal cases covered in the St. Cloud Times.

Cleotis Eugene Scott, also known as Cleotis Marek, 30, of St. Cloud, pleaded guilty Feb. 22 to one felony count of fifth-degree drugs. In another case, Scott pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of domestic assault. He is scheduled to be sentenced July 11. Judge Andrew Pearson presided.

Nils Anthony Njus, 57, of Clear Lake, was sentenced May 16 to five years in prison for one felony count of possessing a firearm or ammo, crime of violence. Njus was credited for 75 days served. One felony count of failing to register as a predatory offender was dismissed. Judge Brianne Buccicone presided.

Jacob Isaac Larcom, 37, of St. Cloud, was sentenced May 16 to a stay of imposition for one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle. With a stay of imposition, the conviction will be deemed a misdemeanor if probation is successfully completed. He will be on probation for one year. In another case, one misdemeanor count of theft was dismissed. Judge Mary Yunker presided on both cases.

Mariano Antonio Cocchiarella, 22, of Big Lake, was sentenced May 16 to one year and one month in prison, stayed for four years, for one felony count of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. He will be on probation for four years.

In another case, Cocchiarella was sentenced to four years in prison, stayed for 15 years, and 180 days in jail for one felony count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim 13-15 years old. He was credited for 99 days served and will be on probation for 15 years.

One felony count of soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct and one felony count of engaging in electronic communication relating or describing sexual conduct with a child were dismissed. The sentences will be served concurrently. Judge Mary Yunker presided.

Darrian Marcus Ambrose, also known as Neeno Darrian Ambrose, 27, of St. Cloud, was sentenced May 23 to eight years in prison for one felony count of first-degree burglary, assault person on the property. He was credited for 217 days served. One felony count of third-degree assault was dismissed.

In another case, Ambrose was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for one felony count of domestic assault. He was credited for 211 days served and his sentence will be served concurrently with his other case. One felony count of first-degree burglary, assault person on the property, one felony count of first-degree burglary and one felony count of violating a no contact order were dismissed.

Marvin Ray Porter, 56, of St. Cloud, was sentenced May 24 to one year and three months in prison, stayed for one year, for one felony count of fifth-degree drugs. He will be on probation for one year. One felony count of third-degree drugs was dismissed. Judge Mary Mahler presided.

James Marquis Rumph, 23, of St. Cloud, was sentenced May 24 to 90 days in jail, stayed 83 days for one year, for one misdemeanor count of violating a domestic abuse no contact order. He was credited for seven days served and will be on probation for one year.

In another case, Rumph was sentenced to 90 days in jail, stayed 86 days for two years, for one misdemeanor count of domestic assault. He was credited for four days served and will be on probation for two years. The sentences will be served concurrently. One misdemeanor count of domestic assault and one misdemeanor count of violating a domestic abuse no contact order were dismissed. Judge Nathaniel Welte presided.

Abdullahi Mohamed Jama, 26, of St. Cloud, was sentenced May 25 to one year and eight months in prison for one felony count of failing to register as a predatory offender. He was credited for 76 days served. Judge Sarah Hennesy presided.

Seth Richard Wallin, 30, of St. Cloud, was sentenced May 26 to three years in prison, stayed for five years, and 72 days in jail for each of two felony counts of violating a no contact order. He was credited for 72 days served and will be on probation for five years. The sentences will be served concurrently. Two felony counts of domestic abuse were dismissed. Judge Nathaniel Welte presided.

Dennis Daniel Erickson, 43, of St. Cloud was sentenced May 26 to two years in prison, stayed for five years, and 164 days in jail for one felony count of domestic assault. He was credited for 164 days served and will be on probation for five years. One felony count of domestic assault was dismissed. Judge Nathaniel Welte presided.

Timothy Allen Newkirk, 47, of St. Cloud was sentenced May 26 to 90 days in jail, stayed 83 days for one year, for one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He was credited for seven days served and will be on probation for one year. One felony count of domestic assault and one misdemeanor count of domestic assault were dismissed. Judge Laura Moehrle presided.

Luis Alberto Mares Rodriguez, 33, was sentenced May 26 to five years and five months in prison for one felony count of first-degree controlled substance crime. He was credited for 311 days served. He was also sentenced to one year and one month in prison for one felony count of fifth-degree drugs. He was credited for 311 days served and the sentences will be served concurrently. He was acquitted on one felony count of first-degree controlled substance crime. Judge Michael Jesse presided.
