Coventry CT Cares to stop running CoventryFest

Jul. 6—COVENTRY — Coventry CT Cares, Inc., the nonprofit organization that runs CoventryFest, announced they will no longer be running the event.

The decision was made by the nonprofit's board after a lengthy discussion. The organization broke the news on their Facebook page on Saturday.

Coventry CT Cares, Inc., stated that their decision was made due to a lack of funding for CoventryFest.

" Times are changing," the organization said on its Facebook page. " Business sponsorships, donations and support of the actual event have been decreasing over the years. Volunteerism is also on the decline."

In addition, the nonprofit stated that all donations for this year's CoventryFest will be refunded. Unidentifiable donations will be donated to the Town of Coventry Human Services Department. This year's CoventryFest was held on June 25.

CoventryFest has become a staple in Coventry, having been run for the last 30 years. The event features food trucks and live music. The event culminates with a fireworks show.

After all the groups that previously ran the event were dissolved, Coventry CT Cares, Inc. began organizing the event in 2019, and ran it every year since then.

"It has been a lot of work for us to barely break even," the nonprofit said.
