Coventry Farmers' Market ranked second in state, 19th nationally

Jul. 22—COVENTRY — As of Wednesday afternoon, the Coventry Farmers' Market was ranked second in the state, sixth in the Northeast and 19th in the nation, according to America's Farmers Market Celebration.

America's Farmers Market Celebration is the only annual ranking of the top farmers markets in the United States as voted on by the public. This is the fourteenth annual celebration.

The celebration is organized by American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition.

American Farmland Trust is a national conservation organization dedicated to protecting farmland, promoting environmentally sound farming practices and keeping farmers on the land.

The Farmers Market Coalition is a membership- based nonprofit organization with the mission to strengthen farmers markets for the benefits of farmers, consumers and communities.

America's Farmers Market Celebration was launched to highlight the important role farmers markets play in communities across the nation while celebrating the farmers, staff and volunteers that make the markets possible.

Greg Plotkin, American Farmland Trust Director of Digital Communications, underscored the importance of farmers markets.

"We believe that every farmers market in America is special in its own way Big or small, in cities or rural towns, farmers markets nourish their communities while helping local farmers, food makers and artisans thrive," he said in a press release. "While the American Farmland Trust does rank America's favorite markets, our intention is to lift up the vital role farmers markets play across the country."
