Covered Wagon Feed Store in Old Town Victorville catches fire

Flames engulfed the Covered Wagon Feed Store in Old Town Victorville, sending firefighters from across the city to battle the blaze.

The commercial fire was reported around 7:22 p.m. Wednesday at the decades-old building located on D Street, between Seventh and Eighth streets.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the ground and from an extended ladder over the two-story structure, which included a framed building near D Street and two attached metal structures to the rear. A water fire truck was also used to battle the flames from the side.

Fire and heavy smoke was seen coming from the second-story windows of the store and roof of the adjacent metal building.

Several Victorville paramedics and fire engines responded to the blaze along with Southern California Edison crews to cut utilities.

Truck driver Robert Eugene Agee from Apple Valley told the Daily Press that he was at a nearby gas station when he noticed the feed store on fire.

Agee, who owns a 10-acre ranch in Hesperia, said he frequents the store nearly once a month and wonders where he’s going to purchase hay for his sheep and goats since the feed store was nearly destroyed and likely won't reopen soon.

The cause of the fire and extent of the damage is unknown. Fire crews are still on scene. The incident is under investigation.
