COVID-19 cases, deaths dip in state, region Sunday

Apr. 25—The number of new COVID-19 cases and deaths reported across the region and state Sunday was the lowest since April 19, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The Northeast Pennsylvania area consisting of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties recorded 237 new cases, down from 345 on Saturday and 376 on Friday. There have now been 72,435 cases reported in the region.

The only new death in the region was reported in Monroe bringing the county's total to 300. The regional death toll is up to 1,775. There were at least three deaths reported in the region on each of the past five days.

There were 3,162 new cases reported across the state Sunday, raising the total to 1,134,176.

Statewide, there were five more COVID-19 deaths reported Sunday. To date, 25,988 people have died from the virus.

By county:

Lackawanna added 43 cases for 17,443 total, including 2,729 probable, and remained at 454 deaths.

Luzerne added 83 cases for 29,852 total, including 2,310 probable, and remained at 788 deaths.

Monroe added 70 cases for 13,541 total, including 394 probable. One new death raised the total to 300 deaths.

Pike added seven cases for 3,659 total, including 366 probable, and remained at 53 deaths.

Susquehanna added seven cases for 2,355 total, including 282 probable, and remained at 58 deaths.

Wayne added 21 cases for 3,793 total, including 388 probable, and remained at 76 deaths.

Wyoming added six cases for 1,792 total, including 316 probable, and remained at 46 deaths.
