COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths fell in Brevard County, with the Space Coast remaining a community of low transmission for the third week in a row, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

New COVID cases fell to 469 between Sept. 22 through Sept. 28 in Brevard, according to the CDC. Two weeks prior, the agency reported 696 cases on the Space Coast.

The positivity rate dropped by more than 5% over the past two weeks, going from 16.79% between Sept. 6 and Sept. 12 down to 11.33% between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26.

Hospitalizations also fell, going from 45 hospitalizations between Sept. 7 and Sept. 13 down to 28 hospitalizations between Sept. 21 and Sept. 27, the CDC said.

Two weeks ago, the agency reported 14 deaths in the county. This reporting period, they reported 11 deaths on the Space Coast between Sept. 22 through Sept. 28. In Brevard, there have been 2,191 deaths from COVID since the start of the pandemic.

It’s important to note that there could be more cases in the community, as not everyone with symptoms takes a test, and at-home tests are not reported to the Florida Department of Health or the CDC.

Brevard is a community of low transmission, a status it has maintained for three weeks. The CDC calculates community transmission levels through hospitalizations and case rates.

There have been 96,052,716 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,053,173 deaths nationwide since the start of the pandemic.

In Brevard, 69.2% of people ages 5 and older have been fully vaccinated. Across the nation, 72% of Americans ages 5 and older have been fully vaccinated.
