‘I have COVID-19.’ Costco shopper spits in face of man with no mask, Illinois cops say

A woman is accused of spitting in a man’s face because he wasn’t wearing a mask at Costco in Illinois, police say.

The 50-year-old man removed his face mask as he was leaving the store in Mettawa, a Chicago suburb, when the woman rammed his shopping cart with her own cart, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. She began yelling at the man, telling him to wear a mask until he left the Costco, cops say.

“I am a schoolteacher and I have COVID-19,” she yelled at the man as he ignored her, according to police.

Then the woman is accused of removing her mask and spitting in his face, police say.

The woman left the Costco, but police say they caught the incident on surveillance video, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Elizabeth Mach, 45, was charged with battery and disorderly conduct.

Detectives are trying to figure out if the woman is a teacher and don’t know whether she has coronavirus, Sgt. Christopher Covelli told WBBM.

Costco started requiring customers to wear masks in May to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
