COVID-19 in Florida: 2,539 new cases and 50 more dead
Florida reported 2,539 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday along with another 50 resident deaths.
Since the pandemic began, the state Department of Health has reported 755,020 cases of the highly contagious coronavirus. As of Sunday, 15,967 residents and 201 non-residents have died from the disease.
Most of the deaths happened in recent weeks but were just confirmed in the past day.
Close to 5.73 million people in Florida have been swabbed for the virus since March and 4.96 million have tested negative, state officials say.
The overall positivity rate since the start of the pandemic, according to state data: 13.18%.
At least 47,053 residents have been hospitalized for the disease since the start of the outbreak, state health officials say. That’s another 77 people who’ve been hospitalized in the past day.
Worldwide, more than 1.1 million have died from the highly infectious coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center.
The U.S. has the highest number of deaths, with at least 219,323 as of 10:24 a.m. Sunday. More than 39.75 million people have tested positive for COVID-19 across the globe. That includes at least 8.1 million in the U.S.
