COVID-19 in Indiana: State reports 786 more cases, 9 new deaths

Indiana Wednesday reported 786 new COVID-19 cases and an additional nine deaths.

None of the nine deaths added to the count occurred Tuesday. However, there are often delays in reporting deaths to the state.

Reflecting the sharp decline in deaths, the tail end of February saw three days with fewer than 10 deaths reported. At the beginning of the month the seven-day daily death average hovered around 50.

Three counties on the advisory map remain in orange, the second highest level of restrictions and the rest are in blue or yellow. In central Indiana, Marion, Johnson and Hancock are in blue and the other donut counties yellow.

Here are some other statistics of note:

  • Since the start of the pandemic: 663,511 COVID-19 cases in Indiana and 12,200 deaths.

  • State positivity rate (seven-day rate as of Feb. 24): For all tests performed, 3.5%.

  • How many people in Indiana hospitals with COVID-19: 731.
